Research, testing, and evolution of combined-winding induction hub motors on light electric transport

Denzel Sparta — Testing Hub Motors 186 & 318
Sparta

Experimental Base

Denzel Sparta became a crucial testing platform after ElMoto for evaluating higher-power induction hub motors and controllers under aggressive acceleration and heavy loads. Detailed documentation began in early 2017.
HUB Motor

First Tests - Airport (21 October 2015)

In October 2015, the size-318 hub motor was mounted. Road tests on October 14 showed exceptional throttle response and dynamic response compared to earlier builds. The 318-size motor was tested at currents up to ~200 A.

Controllers & Tuning

Curtis 1232E/1232SE controllers were utilized. Controller tuning proved vital for top speed, soft RPM limiting, and preventing system oscillations accompanied by current spikes.
Monaco Expo

High-Speed Record

Equipped with the 318-size hub motor, the Sparta platform featured in international exhibitions (including Monaco) and reached speeds of approximately 106 km/h, serving as a flagship show bike.

Project Significance

Demonstrated that effective dynamic performance relies on rapid torque build-up under variable loads rather than rated motor power alone. Formed a cornerstone for ASPP Weihai's larger designs.
